Stylo G

Jamaican born South London resident Stylo G (aka Jason McDermott) has had an incredible 18 months since signing to 3 Beat. He’s graced the stages of Reading & Leeds festival, Wireless and Glastonbury in addition to performing alongside Major Lazer and Rita Ora at Red Bull Culture Clash and collaborating with Damian Marley in the studio.

“Soundbwoy” Stylo’s debut single with 3 Beat was a huge summer 2013 favourite and went down a storm at Notting Hill Carnival. Stylo was nominated for two MOBO 2013 Awards and three Urban Music Awards, firmly solidifying his position as one of the most exciting new talents to emerge this year.

Born Jason McDermott in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Stylo G moved to the UK in 2000 when he was just 15. Son of the legendary reggae artist Poison Chang, Stylo G has followed in his father’s footsteps, making his mark in the UK with his pioneering style which bridges UK hip-hop and dancehall.

He built up a name for himself on the urban scene since releasing his first street track ‘My Yout’ in the mid-noughties and collaborated with the great and the good of grime, rap & dancehall including Wretch 32, Giggs, Gyptian. 2012 was a big year for Stylo G with the release of underground smash “Call Mi a Yardie”. A classic carnival track, “Call Mi a Yardie” also won the support of radio, TV and DJs and prompted The Guardian newspaper to name-check Stylo G as ‘one to watch’ in 2013.
