Classic reggae and dub film and DJ night at the Marshall Rooms
A REGGAE and dub event called Systemation will explore the history of roots reggae as part of this year’s Stroud Film Festival.
The evening which will take place at the Marshall Rooms, will begin with a special screening of Babylon, a film co-written by Martin Stellman, who famously penned Quadrophenia.
Shot in 1980 the classic British film depicts the struggles of a black working-class musician and stars Brinsley Forde of the reggae band Aswad.
Predominantly filmed on the streets of Deptford and Brixton, London, the story centres on sound system culture and themes of police racism, violence against blacks, poverty and disillusion with lack of opportunities.
After the film audience members will be treated to DJ sets, mostly in the form of roots and dub vinyl.
DJ sets will be powered by ‘Tip-A-Tone Soundsystem’, which is an authentic speaker system, built and replicated for the striking bass of roots reggae records.
Tickets are £5 in advance via themarshallrooms.co.uk or £7 on the door
This event is strictly for those aged 17+
